Another shot at the Red Mug

It’s such a relief to have the paintings down in Superior. I think they look great in that space. The Red Mug has a really cool bohemian feel. I understand the building used to be the Superior City Hall. Anyway, it has partially plastered stone walls, a really cool brick focal point which is the gateway to “the pit.” I was there for a couple hours today, and saw a diverse mix of people come in, surf the web, eat, drink coffee, talk, play with toys and just hang out. I like to think of my paintings being a backdrop for that slice of life.

Red Mug

Today I hung 19 paintings at the Red Mug in Superior, WI. Each diptych and triptych is one piece, so it’s actually 23 canvases. Reception this Saturday from 5-8 pm.

World’s Best Donuts, Grand Marais, MN

Everyone keeps talking about these being the final days of summer. That, of course, means only one thing. The Donut Shop will be closing in Grand Marais. For the better part of 20 summers, a certain booth in the Donut Shop has been displaying photos of the Young Family on a vacation out west with their Donut Shop cups. The Badlands, Thermopolis Wyoming, the capital building in Pierre. The donut shop will close on Madeline’s birthday this year, and we’ll make it through the winter with the help of my new deep fryer.
